A picture is worth 1000 words, but a pair of shoes is filled with 10,000 stories.
I’ve never been the type to stick to tradition. Perhaps my perfectly inconsistent life of moving to a new country every three to five years ingrained a sense of irregularity so deeply into my being that I have a hard time sticking to things long enough for them to considered traditions. But in my senior year of high school, I decided it would be fun to create a memento of that final adolescent stretch by wearing the same pair of sneakers every day for the academic year. Seven years later, I’ve maintained this tradition and I have seven relatively-destroyed pairs of classic Converse to show for it.
The following is a sequence of moments in my life and the people that have changed it, lived through the course of these seven pairs of shoes.
